Description

"Doctors save lives." This is a statement about providing "value". The Hippocratic oath states, among other things, "I will do no harm or injustice..." This is a statement of "values". "Value is related to meeting specific need, whereas values are related to a set of beliefs and principles that guide actions and practice. What value does engineering provide to society? What set of values guide our work? Why should we care about answers to these questions?

This talk provides frameworks for thinking about the concepts of "values" and "value" in relation to engineering work: how to connect them to engineering practice, how to leverage them to be an effective engineer within your organization, and how to use them to connect your work to the larger value for society.

You may be eligible for 1 CPD hour.
