Following the recent publication of Canada’s Cities in a Changing World 1920–2120: The Halftime Report, Dan will offer an engineer’s perspective on where Canada’s cities originated, their strengths and weaknesses, and where they are likely headed.
Dan’s talk will address questions such as:
- What are the most pressing challenges facing Canada’s cities as the climate changes both at home and abroad?
- How is politics, both domestic and international, shaping the future of Canada’s urban environments?
- How can engineers best adapt to building and managing cities as Canada’s population eventually begins to decline?
- How can engineers enhance the sustainability of urban infrastructure while facing a multitude of challenges?
- And perhaps most importantly, can engineers catalyze the multidisciplinary teams needed for the energy transition and the shift toward urban sustainability?
